Blinded By The Light

An outcome of the trials was that we discovered the spot lights were positioned in such a way as to blind us when we turned them on. After a bit of thought it was decided to move the lights further forward which tied in with some other cunning plans.

Protect Your Sump

Due to having seen how Chris drives a sump guard has been considered a good idea. We are adapting a sheet of metal that wasn’t bolted down to fit the requirement. However it is not intended to fit this till after the major service as we don’t want to make our lives difficult.

We would like to have the one pictured but unfortunately its beyond our resources

Highway to Hell

Ok so where are we going to start from? We decided on Portsmouth and that way it was easy for the ferry. When looking at Google maps Chris pointed out several locations that could be interesting and the easy part of the route goes something like this:

Portmsouth
Le Harve
Le Mans (must get a pic of the car in front of city sign)
Bordeaux (a team member likes the wine)
Andorra (Never been there and besides its nearly on route..)
Barcelona (Freddie Mercury song)
Valencia (it’s a city and on the way to Gib)
Malaga (Chris is looking for the union jack shorts and knotted hanky!)
Torremolinos (We will have the socks and sandles…)

Sat Nav and Phones

Tom Tom whilst great in Europe is next to useless in Africa, from research it looks like Garmin is the best option with worldmap. Again Chris is trying to source a cheap unit as he realises his map reading skill aren’t to hot. If you know him well enough please stop laughing, he always knows where he is it’s the rest of the world that’s in the wrong place.

Phones is another issue, we will be covered by normal mobiles everywhere except the desert. The desert being the one place where we want a warm and furry that we can call someone and go we are stuck! Sat phones look a good idea but it all comes down to cost

Nothing To Do

As time has run away we decided to sit down and write a list of outstanding work before we went. The list kept growing and growing!!!! But getting the new website up and running was near the top next to what route are we taking!!

Nice Rack

As we started to look at the equipment and the issue with the spot lights blinding us we considered extending the roof rack to give us more space and push the lights further forward. To this end there is now mounts in the bonnet with a 3 foot extended rack joining to them.

This will also give us the ability to sling hammocks off the side of the car. Chris doesn’t fancy sleeping on the deck as there may be things with sharp pointy teeth and a vicious temperament and he wasn’t thinking Colin!
